As the temperatures begin to cool off here in Orange County, it’s important to get your car checked out by a mechanic. Although we rarely experience inclement weather like most of the rest of the country, we are exposed to more rain, cooler weather and ice on occasion. This is especially true if we head up into the mountains. Because of this, right now is the ideal time of year to maintain your car. Here are a few things you can check on your own to make sure things are running smoothly.
Check Your Tire Pressure
Be sure to check the pressure in your tires. If they are flat, it can cause them to not function they way they are supposed to, leaving you at risk if you hit a slick part in the road or need to stop quickly.
Replace your Wiper Blades
If you can’t see out your windows, it’s difficult to drive safely. Getting fresh wiper blades will help keep your windshield as clear as possible, allowing you to see the road and other drivers.
Clean Your Windows
Keeping the outside of your windows clean is fairly simple – you can go to a drive-through car wash and get it done for a few dollars. However, if the inside of your windows are dusty or dirty, it can still be difficult to see out your windows, exposing you to more risk. Either clean the inside of your windows yourself, or take your car to a car wash where they clean the inside of your windows for you.
Take Your Car to a Mechanic
There are several things the average person isn’t going to be able to check on their vehicle. Be sure to take your car into a mechanic you trust and have them check your car. They can test your battery, your brakes, shocks and a variety of other systems to make sure nothing is worn out or is going to break in the near future. This small investment can make the difference between driving your car safely through the winter and breaking down on the coldest day of the year.
