On Monday, February 21, 2011, an alleged drunk driver hit a bicyclist with her car. This fatal Orange County car and bicycle crash occurred around 6 p.m. Monday night in Newport Coast.

Police say that Danae Marie Miller, a 22-year-old female driver of Newport Beach, hit and killed a bicyclist on San Joaquin Road. The bicyclist’s identity has not been released at this time. According to Orange County police officers, this is the fourth fatal car and bicycle collision that has occurred in Newport Beach since July 2009.

According to court records, Miller has had multiple tickets and traffic citations. In fact, since 2005, she had 16 tickets that include driving too fast for conditions, speeding, talking on her cell phone while driving, driving the wrong way on a street, and failure to stop at a stop sign. Most of these citations were given on separate occasions. However, she did receive a combined violation for speeding and talking on her cell phone.

Miller was arrested and booked on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department records, she posted $100,000 bail Tuesday morning and was released.
