On Monday, Aug 29, 2011, a 41-year-old man was involved in an Ortega Highway crash. Authorities indicated that the man was driving a Toyota 4Runner and appeared to drive off the road and over the highway’s edge.
The single-vehicle crash was reported to officials around 11 a.m. When rescue workers arrived, they found the man’s body 350 feet down a steep highway drop-off around 12:17 p.m. Investigators said he was ejected from his vehicle during the crash, and they pronounced him dead at the accident scene. Later, authorities identified the man as Bijan Momtaz, of Mission Viejo.
Witnesses told officials that Momtaz was driving eastbound on Ortega Highway when he drove into the westbound lane and over the edge of the highway without ever braking.
Officials are not sure if the crash was unintentional or if it was done on purpose. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the scene to determine the cause of this crash.
There were no passengers in the vehicle or anyone else injured in this wreck.
We at the Law Office of John P. Burns extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Momtaz following this fatal crash.
