A female motorist died on Tuesday, July 26, 2011, in a four-vehicle crash in Irvine. Authorities indicated that the collision happened around 4:15 p.m.

The crash occurred at the intersection of University Drive and Rosa Drew Lane. Irvine police said that their preliminary investigation indicated that a 2010 BMW coupe was driving south on Rosa Drew Lane when it was hit by a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer that was traveling west on University Drive.

Upon impact the two cars launched into a minivan and postal truck, which were also traveling in the intersection. The Mountaineer hit the BMW on the driver’s side door, and emergency crews had to cut the BMW driver from the car when they arrived to the scene.

The 22-year-old BMW driver was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. However, she was later pronounced dead. Her name has not been released at this time.

The 26-year-old SUV driver, from Corona del Mar, was injured in this Orange County crash and taken to the hospital in serious condition. Authorities expect her to recover.

The people in the postal truck and minivan were not injured in this crash.

Police closed down some of the lanes at the intersection to investigate the crash. However, they have not determined which vehicle did have the right of way at this time.

The Law Office of John P. Burns would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, and would like to wish the SUV driver a full recovery.
