On Monday, December 6, 2010, a tragic Orange County car crash occurred on the 241 toll road near Bee Canyon. This Monday morning crash turned fatal and necessitated that the California Highway Patrol (CHP) be out at the scene for hours investigating how it occurred.
CHP says that a man in a pickup truck crashed into a bridge pillar in the median, totaling the pickup and killing the driver. The driver, a 28-year-old man from Anaheim, was driving northbound on the 241 toll road Monday morning, just south of Bee Canyon, when he veered off the road and slammed his 2010 Chevrolet pickup into a bridge pillar.
The CHP was notified of the accident around 11:17 a.m., finally arriving at the scene to investigate the cause of the man leaving the road. At this time, the reason for the man leaving the road remains unknown. CHP Sgt. Michael Harris says that no other vehicles were involved in this car crash.
When emergency responders arrived on the scene, firefighters had to pry open the driver’s side door and paramedics pronounced the driver dead on the scene. Police say that there were no passengers in the pickup. The man was identified as Jay Winters, of Anaheim. Officials remain unsure of whether or not Winters had a health condition that played a role in the crash.
We are saddened to hear about this fatal crash and send our thoughts and condolences to the victim’s family and friends.
